Fire Detection & Alarm

Conventional Fire Alarm Systems in Bangladesh

A conventional fire alarm wires detectors and call points into zone circuits, and the panel shows which zone is in alarm rather than which device. It is simpler and cheaper than addressable, and it is a sound choice for small offices, shops and buildings with only a few clearly separated areas.

Scope

What’s included.

Everything below is done by our own engineers and installation team, so one company answers for the result.

  • Zone plan agreed with you before installation
  • Conventional panel with battery standby
  • Smoke and heat detectors suited to each room
  • Manual call points at exits and stairs
  • Sounders or sounder beacons on every floor
  • End-of-line monitoring on every zone
  • Zone chart mounted beside the panel

When is conventional the right choice?

When the building is small enough that a zone can be searched in moments. A two-storey office with one zone per floor, or a shop with a stockroom, gains little from device-level addressing. The panel is easy for staff to understand, and spare parts are widely available.

It is the wrong choice for a large factory floor, a tall building or any site expected to grow. Once a zone covers a large open area, the time spent searching outweighs the savings on equipment. A conventional panel also has limited ability to control other systems, so buildings that need lift recall, staged evacuation or voice alarm links are better served by addressable.

How should a conventional system be zoned?

Zoning is the whole design of a conventional system, because the zone is the only location the panel gives. A zone should normally stay within one floor and one fire compartment, so the person reading the panel knows exactly which door to go through. Stairs and risers usually get their own zones.

We mount a clear zone chart beside the panel, showing each zone on a floor plan. Without it, a conventional alarm tells you little. Each detector base is also marked with its zone number, so a technician tracing a fault, or a fire warden checking a room, can confirm which circuit a device belongs to without opening the panel.

How does a conventional panel detect faults?

Each zone ends in an end-of-line device, and the panel monitors a small current through the circuit. If a cable breaks or a detector head is removed, the current changes and the panel shows a zone fault. A short circuit on the zone also shows as a fault rather than a fire.

What it cannot tell you is which device has the problem. That is why test and maintenance records matter more on conventional systems. Testing each detector in turn and noting the result is the only way to know that every device on a zone still responds, rather than just the wiring.

How it’s done

How we deliver it, step by step.

  1. 01

    Map the zones

We divide the building into zones by floor and compartment and agree the plan with you.

  2. 02

    Choose detectors

Each room gets a smoke or heat detector to suit its use, avoiding false-alarm traps.

  3. 03

    Install and terminate

Cables are run per zone, devices mounted and every zone fitted with its end-of-line device.

  4. 04

    Test each zone

Every detector and call point is triggered and the correct zone indication is confirmed.

Price guide

What sets the price.

Every site is different, so we price from a survey, not a rate card. These are the factors that move the number, and the written quote shows each one.

Get an exact quote
  • Number of zones and panel size
  • Number of detectors, call points and sounders
  • Cable lengths and whether conduit is needed
  • Ceiling heights and access for installation
  • Any link to a door release or generator

Frequently asked questions

It depends on the number of zones, the number of detectors and call points, cable lengths and whether cables must run in conduit. Conventional panels and detectors cost less than addressable ones, which is the main saving. We quote after a short site visit to count rooms and check ceilings.

Not directly. Addressable devices need an addressable panel and usually loop wiring, so an upgrade means replacing the panel and devices, though some cable routes can sometimes be reused. If you expect the building to grow, it is often cheaper to start with addressable.

For a very small unit it can be. For most garment and industrial factories, the floor areas are too large for a zone to be searched quickly, and buyers and auditors expect device-level information. The fire safety plan and your buyer's requirements should guide the decision.

Standby batteries age with temperature and frequent power cuts, both common in Bangladesh. They should be load-tested as part of routine NFPA 72 inspection and replaced when they fail the test or reach the end of the life the manufacturer states. Write the install date on every battery.
