Electrical Design, Earthing and Lightning Protection in Bangladesh
Electrical and lightning safety covers the parts of a building's power system that prevent fires and electric shock: accurate single line and layout drawings, correctly rated sub-stations and distribution boards, a low-resistance earthing system and lightning protection designed to IEC 62305. Factories facing RSC or buyer audits usually need all four documented and tested.
Most electrical fires in factories trace back to something that was never designed: a panel added without a drawing, a breaker sized by guesswork, an earth pit nobody can find. We start from the drawings, then build or upgrade the sub-station and distribution boards, install earthing and lightning protection, and test everything before handover. Design follows BNBC 2020 Part 8 and the relevant IEC standards, with ABB or Schneider switchgear where specified. One team owns the job from survey to test report.

Electrical & Lightning Safety
SLD & ELD drawings
An SLD (single line diagram) shows how power flows from the supply through every breaker and panel to the loads, with ratings and cable sizes. An ELD (electrical layout drawing) shows where panels, cable routes, lights and sockets sit on the floor plan. Auditors, utilities and maintenance teams need both to match what is actually installed.

Sub-station & MDB/SDB
A sub-station steps utility power down from 11 kV or 33 kV to the 400 V a building uses, then the main distribution board (MDB) and sub-distribution boards (SDBs) share it out to floors and machines. Each part must be sized for the real load, protected by correctly rated breakers and installed with safe clearances.

Earthing system
An earthing system connects the electrical installation and exposed metalwork to the ground, so fault current flows safely, breakers trip quickly and no one touches a live surface. A good system is designed from soil resistivity tests, uses durable electrodes and bonding, and is proven by measured earth resistance at handover.

Lightning & surge protection
A lightning protection system intercepts a strike on the roof, carries the current down the outside of the building and spreads it into the ground, so it does not pass through the structure, the wiring or people. Surge protective devices then stop the remaining overvoltage from damaging electrical and electronic equipment. IEC 62305 covers both.

Which electrical service do you need?
Start from the problem you need to solve; most electrical audit findings map to one of these.
| Service | Best for | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| SLD & ELD drawings | Best for: Missing or outdated drawings, audit findings, new connections and expansions | How: We trace every panel and circuit on site, then draw the SLD and layouts |
| Sub-station & MDB/SDB | Best for: New factories, load increases, and old or overheating distribution boards | How: We size the HT, transformer, LT and MDB/SDB, then supply, install and test |
| Earthing system | Best for: High earth readings, new buildings, shocks from equipment, sensitive electronics | How: Soil resistivity test, electrode design, earth pits and bonding, proven by measured readings |
| Lightning & surge protection | Best for: Tall or isolated buildings, rooftop solar or plant, surge-damaged electronics | How: IEC 62305 risk assessment, air terminals, down conductors, earthing and surge protective devices |

Electrical & Lightning Safety: questions buyers ask
Yes, in practice. RSC and most buyer electrical audits ask for an up-to-date single line diagram showing every panel, breaker rating and cable size, and auditors check it against what is installed. Without one, overloads and wrong breaker sizes are hard to prove or rule out, so many corrective action plans start with redrawing the SLD.
Earthing gives fault current a safe, low-resistance path to ground so breakers trip and metal parts never stay live. Lightning protection intercepts strikes on the roof and carries them down to earth outside the structure. They are separate designs, but IEC 62305 calls for the lightning earth to be bonded with the building's other earths so dangerous voltage differences cannot build up.
It depends on the connected load, the supply voltage (11 kV or 33 kV), the number of distribution boards and circuits, the switchgear brands specified, and whether existing panels can be reused. Drawings alone cost far less than a sub-station. We give a written, itemized quote after a free site survey, so you can compare it line by line.
BNBC 2020 Part 8 for building electrical services, IEC 60364 for low-voltage installations, IEC 61439 for switchboard assemblies, IEEE 80 for sub-station earthing and IEC 62305 for lightning protection. Where a buyer or insurer names another standard, such as NFPA 70 or NFPA 780, we design to that and state it on the drawings.
Mostly, yes. Surveys, drawings and most earthing work happen while the factory runs. Panel replacement and sub-station changes need short, planned shutdowns, which we schedule for weekends, holidays or night shifts and prepare in advance so the outage covers only the changeover itself. The shutdown plan is agreed in writing before work starts.
