Fire Doors & Emergency Exits

Emergency and Exit Lighting in Bangladesh

Emergency lighting switches on automatically when normal power fails, so people can see escape routes, stairs and exits. Exit signs show the way out at all times. Every factory, high-rise and public building needs both, and NFPA 101 expects emergency lighting to run for 90 minutes on battery.

Scope

What’s included.

Everything below is done by our own engineers and installation team, so one company answers for the result.

  • Escape route lighting layout
  • Exit and directional sign layout
  • Self-contained or central battery units
  • Emergency lighting at stairs, exits and changes of direction
  • Lighting at fire panels, call points and firefighting equipment
  • Low-level photoluminescent wayfinding where specified
  • Full-duration test at handover with records

Why isn't the generator enough?

A generator takes time to start and transfer load, and it can fail to start at all. In those seconds a floor of hundreds of workers is in darkness. Emergency lighting covers that gap instantly from its own battery, and keeps working if the generator never comes on or the fire damages the supply.

Frequent power cuts in Bangladesh also mean emergency batteries cycle more than in many countries, so battery quality and regular testing matter more here. Heat in unventilated ceilings and stair cores shortens battery life further, which we take into account when choosing fittings and where to mount them.

Self-contained or central battery?

Self-contained fittings have their own battery and charger inside each light or sign. They are simple to install and a single failure affects only one fitting, but every battery must be tested and eventually replaced across the building. Self-testing versions run their own monthly and annual tests and flag a failed fitting.

A central battery system feeds all fittings from one battery room through fire-resistant cable. Testing and battery replacement happen in one place, which suits large factories and towers, but the cabling must be protected and the battery room becomes critical. We recommend based on building size and maintenance capacity.

What makes exit signs effective?

Signs must be visible from anywhere on the escape route and point the right way at every turn. Exit signs listed to UL 924 are tested for visibility and for operation on battery. ISO 7010 sets the familiar green running-person symbol, which reads without words, useful for a mixed workforce.

In smoke, signs near the ceiling disappear first. Low-level photoluminescent wayfinding strips along stairs and corridors help people find the exit when smoke fills the upper part of the room. They need no power at all, but they must be charged by normal lighting, so they are placed where the lights are on during working hours.

How it’s done

How we deliver it, step by step.

  1. 01

    Trace escape routes

We follow every route from the furthest point of each floor to a final exit.

  2. 02

    Place lights and signs

Fittings go at exits, stairs, turns, level changes and fire equipment, with signs at every decision point.

  3. 03

    Choose the system

We recommend self-contained or central battery based on building size and maintenance capacity.

  4. 04

    Install and duration test

Fittings are installed, then mains is cut to prove the full battery duration.

  5. 05

    Hand over test logs

You receive the layout, test results and a log sheet for monthly and annual tests.

Price guide

What sets the price.

Every site is different, so we price from a survey, not a rate card. These are the factors that move the number, and the written quote shows each one.

  • Number of floors, stairs and escape routes
  • Self-contained or central battery system
  • Number of exit and directional signs
  • Fire-resistant cabling for central systems
  • Photoluminescent wayfinding on stairs and corridors

Frequently asked questions

It depends on the length and complexity of the escape routes, the number of fittings and signs, whether you choose self-contained units or a central battery system, and any photoluminescent wayfinding. Central systems cost more to install but less to maintain on large sites. We quote from a route layout.

NFPA 101 requires emergency lighting to provide illumination for at least 90 minutes after normal power fails. Some buyer standards and building types ask for the same or longer. Batteries lose capacity with age and heat, so the full-duration test is the only way to know a fitting still meets it.

NFPA 101 calls for a functional test of at least 30 seconds every month and a full 90-minute test every year, with written records. Self-testing fittings can run these automatically and report faults. Any fitting that fails should be repaired and retested.

Yes. Factories are expected to have escape lighting and illuminated exit signs along every route, and RSC and buyer auditors test them by switching off the power. Coverage depends on the building's layout and occupancy and is shown in the fire safety plan.
