Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems in Bangladesh

An automatic sprinkler system is a network of pipes with heat-sensitive heads spaced across the ceiling. When a fire heats a head to its rated temperature, that head opens and sprays water on the fire, while the others stay shut. It controls a fire before people arrive and is designed in Bangladesh to NFPA 13 and BNBC 2020.

Scope

What’s included.

Everything below is done by our own engineers and installation team, so one company answers for the result.

  • Hazard classification of each area
  • Hydraulic calculation and head layout drawings
  • Listed sprinkler heads matched to ceiling and hazard
  • Alarm valve or control valve set per zone
  • Flow switches and valve tamper switches to fire alarm
  • Inspector's test and main drain connections
  • Hydrostatic test of all pipework
  • As-built drawings and spare head cabinet

How does a sprinkler head know when to open?

Each head is held shut by a small glass bulb or a fusible link. The liquid in the bulb expands with heat until the glass breaks, and the water pressure behind it pushes the seal out. Bulbs are color-coded by temperature, with red at 68 °C being the most common rating for ordinary rooms.

Only the heads that reach their rating open. The film image of every head spraying at once is wrong, and it is why sprinklers cause far less water damage than people expect. Most fires in sprinklered buildings are controlled by a small number of heads, often before the fire service arrives.

Why does hazard class matter so much in a factory?

NFPA 13 sets the water density and the operating area from the hazard. An office is light hazard, a sewing floor is typically ordinary hazard, and a warehouse of cartons or rolled fabric stacked high is storage, which needs much more water. Designing a whole building to one class either wastes money or leaves the store rooms underprotected.

High-piled storage is where we see the most mistakes. Standard heads at a high roof may not reach a fire deep in a rack. Depending on the commodity and storage height, the answer may be in-rack sprinklers or ESFR heads, which need their own pump and tank capacity. We size these from the storage plan, so tell us how you stack goods.

Wet, dry, pre-action or deluge?

Almost all sprinkler systems in Bangladesh are wet pipe, with water held in the pipes at all times. Pre-action systems keep the pipes dry until the fire alarm confirms a fire, which suits server rooms and archives where an accidental leak would be costly. Deluge systems use open heads and are reserved for special hazards such as transformer bays.

Dry pipe systems hold air under pressure and are built for places where pipes could freeze, which is rare here outside cold stores. Whatever the type, the sprinkler control valves, flow switches and tamper switches are wired to the fire alarm, so a flowing head or a closed valve shows up on the panel at once.

How it’s done

How we deliver it, step by step.

  1. 01

    Hazard survey

We walk every area, note ceiling heights, obstructions and how goods are stored.

  2. 02

    Design and calculation

We lay out heads, size pipes hydraulically and confirm pump and tank demand.

  3. 03

    Install and coordinate

Our team routes pipework around ducts, lights and cable trays, and sets heads at correct deflector distances.

  4. 04

    Test and interface

We pressure-test, flush, then prove flow switches and tamper switches signal the fire alarm panel.

  5. 05

    Handover

You get as-built drawings, test certificates, spare heads and the NFPA 25 inspection schedule.

Price guide

What sets the price.

Every site is different, so we price from a survey, not a rate card. These are the factors that move the number, and the written quote shows each one.

Get an exact quote
  • Protected floor area and number of heads
  • Hazard class and storage height
  • Ceiling type, height and obstructions
  • Number of zones and alarm valve sets
  • Listed head brand and response type
  • Shared or dedicated pump and water reserve

Frequently asked questions

It depends on the occupancy, height and area under BNBC 2020, and on your fire safety plan. High-rise buildings and many industrial and storage buildings need one, and RMG buyer programs often expect sprinklers in production and storage areas. We check your building's requirement at survey rather than guessing.

We do not quote per square foot, because two buildings of the same size can differ widely. The cost follows the hazard class, ceiling height, storage arrangement, number of zones and whether a new pump set and tank are needed. A survey and head layout give a price you can rely on.

No. Sprinkler heads respond to heat at the head, not smoke. A head opens only when its bulb or link reaches the rated temperature, which normal cooking smoke or a cigarette does not do. Smoke detection is a fire alarm job, and the two systems work together.

NFPA 25 sets the routine: control valves and gauges checked regularly, alarm devices tested on a set cycle, a main drain test each year, and sample heads tested once they reach a certain age. Heads that are painted, corroded or loaded with lint should be replaced, which is common in garment factories.
